Context

The context is the setting, conditions, and environment that gives rise to an event or an experience. Everything that follows on this page helps provide context for you to consciously choose and engage in this work from an informed place.

Process

Seeking support is a courageous and transformative step in the growth and healing process. It is an act that says you are ready for a shift to occur in yourself and in your life.

The outcome of this work depends largely on your willingness to engage in the process, which may, at times, result in discomfort. This discomfort is, in part, an integral component to growth and change. Even though remembering unpleasant events and becoming aware of feelings attached to those events can bring on strong feelings, overwhelm, resistance, and so forth, it also leads to new insights, resources, and somatic openings. If this brings up concern, know that we always move at a pace that is managable, one that your system can tolerate and integrate. What we discover through this work is that everything is always changing, including you.

It is important to note that there are no miracle cures. I cannot promise that your behavior or circumstance will change. However, I can promise to bring the best of my training, gifts and tools to support and understand you in your unique healing and growth process. I am always holding the intention for the highest and best outcomes and for the fulfillment of your therapeutic goals. In the course of time I’ve offered this work I have seen countless lives change in profound and meaningful ways.

Ethics

Ethical guidelines provide context for the orientation, attitude, and presentation of quality services, within my individual scope of practice. They outline professional standards for appropriate behavior, professional expectations, and preventing harm.

Ethics shape the therapeutic relationship, by providing a foundation for operating with right use of power, clear treatment planning, awareness of transference, maintenance of confidentiality & informed consent, and active investigation of personal basis. My code of ethics is informed by my masters level training as a Marriage & Family Therapist and as a dedicated yoga teacher of 15 years.

I maintain the intention and efforts required to provide the highest quality care and support within my scope of practice. Should there be a question of ethical behavior please bring your questions to session at the outset of our work, or at any time that something of concern arises.

Confidentiality

This work is highly personal and as such strict codes of confidentiality are maintained to insure the safety required to effectively process through challenges, trauma, growth, and change.

I follow the Ethical Guidelines of the American Association of Marriage & Family Therapy and MFT professionals in the state of Hawaii that legally require me to share information about our work if there is threat of harm to self; threat of imminent bodily harm towards another individual; or harm to a child or dependent adult. Should this content arise in our time together we will discuss the next steps.

If you are part of my small island community and we happen to see each other outside of my office, I act with discretion, generally following your lead, and never engaging in a way that would identify you as a personal client of mine. During the course of our work together I discourage in-depth exchanges of a personal nature (or otherwise) outside of our office hours. Additionally should there be any social overlap, as can happen in our small community, I aim to maintain a friendly yet professional distance to keep the nature of our therapeutic relationship intact.

To reiterate because it is essential in our work, your right to privacy and confidentiality is of the utmost importance to me and I will never identify to others how I know you or the work that we do together.

I have decades of extensive training and experience that is outlined in depth at the bottom of this page.

Techniques

Sessions are a blend of therapeutic process, experiential somatic work, nervous system regulation, energy healing, trauma resolution, mentorship, psycho-education, and coaching. The style of session will depend on client intentions, goals, and session focus.

Models and techniques I often utilize include, but are not limited to: Psycho-Physical Therapy, Somatic Processing, Belief Re-patterning, Expressive Arts Work, Trauma-Focused CBT, Somatic Experiencing, NLP, Parts Work, Yoga Therapy, Reiki & Energy Healing& other Mind-Body Therapeutic Approaches.

Format

The initial 1-3 sessions are often focused on assessment and connection where information is collected and trust is developed. In these first sessions we collaboratively identify core intentions and commitments for our work together. Throughout these initial sessions, we develop a plan and timeline.

Sessions are approximately 60 minutes in length, and are typically scheduled weekly or bi-weekly. Either party is able to terminate the therapeutic relationship at any time, though it is recommended that we have a closing and completion session.

Scheduling

Appointments can be scheduled here. Please be timely for all appointments, in good health, and free of any intoxicants.

Please provide 24 hours advanced notice to cancel or change an appointment. Failure to reschedule or cancel an appointment with 24 hours advanced notice will result in you being billed at 50% rate for the appointment time. Should missed and/or rescheduled appointments become a regular occurrence, services may be terminated.

It is often preferable for clients to maintain the same scheduled day and time from week to week. Should there be ongoing cancellations (despite the provision of advanced notice), I may not be able to hold your preferred scheduled time and you will have to schedule your appointments according to schedule availability.

To maximize the effectiveness of the therapeutic process, participation in sessions is paramount. Please prioritize your appointments and make the commitment to fully show up. A core tenant I hold is, “you get out of it what you put into it.”

Fees

For those that would like to work at their own pace, individual sessions are billed at $160.

For those committed to working together for a period of time, I offer a slightly reduced rate for a series of 2 sessions a month ($300) or 4 sessions ($600) when set on autopay. Please aim to use the sessions in your series within 60 days from purchase date.

If you are called to me and this work but feel financially hindered, please communicate with me directly via email, as I do provide reduced rates for single parents, adolescents, and marginalized or under privileged individuals.

Refunds

Due to the experiential service based nature of this work I do not provide refunds. You may have a change of heart, find the results differ from your expectations, or simply not follow through on your initial commitment at which time our working relationship can be dissolved. However, refunds for any services received or any billing that has already taken place will not be provided.

Communication

I recognize the inherent convenience in communicating electronically in our modern world and have provided digital scheduling, with the option for email and text communication, for clients who choose to “opt-in.” However confidentiality is limited through these channels.

Text is an easy way to communicate about scheduling (running late etc.) however to cancel or reschedule your sessions please use the scheduling system. Please do not share detailed information via text.

Emails are welcome for specific questions or requests. Additionally they are an available option to provide reflections in preparation for our session or to highlight specific challenges or situations that you’d like to address in session. I generally respond to emails with questions or requests within one to three days, however I do not provide in-depth therapeutic processing via email. Please be advised that any electronic communication becomes a part of your client record.

I do have a public Instagram account and Facebook business page oriented to the services I offer and the values of Learn.Heal.Create. and Intentional Life Design, however I request that any messaging remain in email format.
